Florence Swamy

Florence Swamy, Executive Director of the Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding, works in Restorative Justice, Women’s Peacebuilding Leadership and Community Peacebuilding. Programmatic work in these thematic areas provide skills, capacity, and support to local communities (and other stakeholders including Government) so as to enable the citizens to engage with different stakeholders, at different levels, to bring about positive and lasting changes. Florence is particularly concerned about communities understanding and taking charge of the many service delivery and development issues communities continue to face and to empower them to handle any conflicts that arise peacefully through dialogue, mediation and negotiation. This work fosters social cohesion as it revolves around naming and framing issues in communities where issues are numerous, sensitive and complex. Central to Florence’s work in programming is the need to harness indigenous knowledge and local community context and to work in collaborative networks that amplify conflict resolution with a peacebuilding lens.
